Turks News · Cross Country Meet over the weekend!!

XC competed in their last regular season meet yesterday at Magnussen Park. It is the team’s third trip to the park this season which has its own set of pros and cons. But, based on how well we were able to compete I will take all the pros we can get. Building the familiarity and addressing where on the course we have opportunities for improvement went a long way. All 3 athletes made a P.R. for the season. And they weren’t small P.R.’s either.
The team also had to manage an elongated warm-up period. Shortly after we started out first warm-up run, we got the announcement a school was late, and our race time was being pushed back. Luckily, it was only pushed back about 10 minutes, but even those little changes can throw athletes off. That was not the case for Sultan.
Justin Magruder was our first finisher, recording a time of 23:31. Compared to our last 5k, he improved by 1:23. Another big jump for season.
Cameron Gunderson finished second for Sultan at 24:47. In comparison, Cameron improved his 5k time by 2:00 exactly. And, he has seen P.R.’s in every race this season.
Avery Brumley ran clean up and clocked in at 29:53. This is an improvement by 2:05. I believe this is the single biggest jump in a P.R. for any of our athletes this season.
As for our Athlete of the meet, I don’t see how I can single out any one individual performance as all three really laid out everything they had in this week’s competition. Every coach experiences proud moments for their teams. This was definitely one of them.
We have one race left which is the conference championships at South Whidbey next Saturday. Excited to run there, as South Whidbey tends to be one of the faster courses we will come across. However, with spring sports starting our athletes will be joining their respective clubs. XC will be combining practices with Track and Field, while some of our boys will be in Soccer practice. I believe we have built up a good routine over the course of the short season and expect our athletes to manage our disruption with grace.

Thank you all for the support you have given to XC,
